Up 13,000 feet in the sky, my dream was about to come true, and I was going to jump from a noisy little airplane into the air—a free fall jump.
Skydiving had always been a wish of mine since I was a little kid, and I had seen a picture of it. I wanted to fly and feel free.
I never had the opportunity then. Years later, on one of my birthdays, I decided to buy a ticket to do it but never did. Seven years passed, and this time I decided that I had waited long enough. Was it fear that made me not do it earlier? Sure, that had a little to do with it. But I knew that the more I waited, the harder it would be to make it happen.
So one day, I drove to the nearest jumping station, walked into the facility, and bought a jump. On the way there, I fought thoughts about fear, unnecessary risks, and fatality statistics at the place I had chosen to jump.
